On completion of a valid novitiate, the novice professes temporary vows in the novitiate house. Sisters make the temporary profession of vows usually for the period of five years, renewing them every year or several years respectively. With the consent of her council, the major superior may shorten the time of temporary profession, yet within the limit of three years required for the validity of the perpetual profession. She may also extend it up to six, and exceptionally to nine years. After hearing the opinion of her council, the major superior may, for just reasons, anticipate the renewal of the temporary profession by one month at the most, and anticipate the perpetual profession but not by more than three months.
